NuScale Power Is Holding Up - But Pressure Beneath the Surface Is Building

The main story behind SMR stock isn't just the surging demand for nuclear energy in the AI era but how long the company can continue to navigate a financial paradox where its revenues have virtually evaporated.

At first glance, NuScale Power (NYSE: SMR) appears to be in the ultimate position. It is the only company in the U.S. with a standard design approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and holds a massive cash balance of approximately $1.9 billion dedicated to deploying small modular reactors.

But beneath the surface, the picture is far more complex. In Q2 2026, company revenues plummeted by 99.1% to just $75,000. To build its massive cash cushion, the company aggressively diluted shareholders. At the same time, heavy insider selling pressure mounted: historical parent company Fluor completely liquidated its direct stake in the stock (sales totaling roughly $1.5 billion), alongside ongoing sales by company executives. With zero active insider buys over the past year, the market interprets this as a lack of internal confidence.

Combined with Wall Street downgrades, this sent the stock crashing by nearly 88%.

The core conflict lies in market timing. While tech giants like Amazon and Google are pouring billions into nuclear power agreements for their data centers, NuScale has yet to secure a binding commercial contract with a major hyperscaler.

Technical Outlook: The price structure displays a sharp downtrend around $5.50, showing no definitive signs of a halt or reversal at this stage. Although indicators point to deep oversold conditions that could trigger a short-term relief rally, this does not signal a trend reversal and a daily breakdown below the $5.21 support level opens the door to new lows at $3.50–$4.00.

The Bottom Line: NuScale possesses strong liquidity and technological maturity, but without immediately securing a major commercial supply contract, investors will find it increasingly difficult to ignore the gap between expectations and reality on the ground
